With few exceptions, medical devices are developed by Western organizations to treat patients living in the "Global North".  In reality, these devices make their way to countries in the Global South, where the context can be significantly different, undermining the effectiveness of such devices, and ultimately the outcomes of the patients.  Additionally, unique challenges found in the Global South necessitate innovation to solve problems of global health importance for which solutions do not yet exist.  To address these issues, important research and innovation is currently taking place in the Global South.  However, traditional barriers to publication result in only a fraction of this knowledge being shared.
